How To Choose a Showlead
Shopping for a showlead for the first time? Choosing the proper showlead for your dog is an important part of your showing regimen. The proper lead will not only allow you to show your dog to its highest potential, it will also highlight and accentuate its most prominent features. We have a wide variety of showleads to choose from, but with a little bit of research and time you will be able to find the best fit for you and your dog; here's how:
Talk to other exhibitors and handlers that show the same breed and variety of dog as you do. Experienced handlers will have had years of experience and will have experimented with a variety of lead types. They should be able to offer you advice on which type of lead is commonly used in your breed. When you are ready with your preferred type of lead you are ready to shop with us.
Here at Handlers you have the opportunity to design your own lead.
Here is a step by step guide on how:
Measure your dogs neck, under the jawline and behind the ears. Then take another measurement around the widest part of its head, the ears. You can find the size of lead you seek, in our size chart, under instructions.
Browse through our catalogue and see if we have the type of lead you seek on offer. If not, send us a query, there is a good possibility that we can make it for you anyway.
When you find the lead you like, click on the "to order click here" at the bottom of the page.
Mix "N" Match
You can mix and match even further and make a few changes to your lead in this section. You can choose to change the colour of the ribbon collar in your showlead. Shorten the length of lead if you wish. Also, you can lengthen the lead to your specifications at a nominal cost for raw materials. If you seek other changes to your lead, feel free to send us your request and we will do our best to meet your specifications.
Finally the fun bit
That is if you like a little *BLING* (or a lot). We offer a wide selection of beads and pendants. Take a look, you can choose from beads, write a name or term of endearment or choose from a selection of pendants - even design your own.
Have fun with it - we do!
The Showlead For You
Handlers showleads are handcrafted and specially designed to meet the specific needs of the handler at dog shows.
Here you will find three size charts. One that shows in general which size is fitting for various breeds, another as a general guide to the standard length of the leads we make. The third that gives the details on how wide and long the ribbon collars are on our showleads. As we custom make our leads, you are welcome to request the length that suits you most. A nominal surcharge applies to lengthening, to meet extra material costs. We will advise you of this charge for your concent, prior to making your lead, if this applies to your order.
Size and Length Charts
Neck Mesurements for leads. *Please note that sizes can vary within breeds, this chart only gives a example on which size is fitting in general for the breeds. It is always a good idea to measure the dog to be certain on which size to choose. When measuring the neck width, the measurement should be taken, under the jawline and behind the ears. For slipleads it is necessary to measure the width of the dogs head at the widest part i.e. over the ears, to be sure the slip fits over the dogs head.

No need for a chunky snap hook - safe, secure and elegant for the showring
How the Loop Lead Works
Step 1:
Large Loop Lead and Simple Slip Collar in black and tan colours.
Step 2:
Put the loop through the ring on the collar...
Step 3:
Next is to put the handle through the loop...
You can adjust the length of the lead by winding around the handle and securing in the slit on the side. Also the option is available to include also the traditional loop to keep the choice of using the handle or not. The handle is easily removed as it is secured in the same way as the loop on the collar.
Step 5:
Tighten and you are secure. No chance of accidentally unlocking a snap hook, also less chunky than a snap hook for use as a show lead - for large dogs.
Step 4:
Pull all the way through...
