Handlers was started in July 2009, purely out of the need for a showlead that was easy to use. The traditional method of bundling the excess length of the cord in the hand and/or tying a knot and keeping a grip on it, was simply too distracting for the founder of the company as she needed to keep her focus on the dog and not the lead in the showring.
Bjarndis Helena Mitchell needed a handle that could provide a secure grip within the hand, concealing the excess lead length, a handle that she could fix her optimum length setting in place and not have to re-adjust it in the showring.
That was the beginning of Handlers.
Since then many more unique solutions have been implemented, like the secure cord lock, that does not widen easily keeping the dog firmly on the lead in the ring. There is nothing more disrupting than a dog that escapes the lead while in the ring, too often resulting in a chase and disruption to other participants.
We also came up with two sized rings on a slip collar that have the dual function of being able to wrap the slip collar around the dogs neck instead of being put on the dog over its head, great for dogs with intricate grooming that should not get dishevelled just before entering the ring. Along with the added benefit of being able to widen the collar further up the lead to rest around the dogs shoulders, while stacking in the ring, instead of appearing like the dog is strung up like a puppet on a string, compromising the silhouette and build appearance of the dog.
