The Design

Hi, my name is Bjarndis Helena Mitchell, but you can call me: Bjarndis, Baddy or Helena - whichever makes you comfortable. But that's just it! Comfort! This is what our design is all about, the comfort for both the dog and handler in the show ring. Our main focus is to design and provide the best show lead for each individual in question. We are on a mission to take a really close look into the solutions needed for our clients, taking everything into account:BreedSizeColorCoatShow style Solve individual problems for our clients that they may be facing. All so that the show ring experience can be a smooth and comfortable one and that at the end of the day the dog managed to show all it's best features and qualities before the judge. Moments matter and we all know that in the few minutes we have in the ring, the whole package is being scrutinized every split second of the way. Solutions we have focused on and found solutions to are: Excess cord and managing bundles of lead in your hand, along with blisters and burns causing discomfort for the handler in the ring - we provide the Handlers Handy Handle (patent pending) that solves all these problems in one go!Widening of the cord and the dog slipping out of the lead in the ring - we use a cord lock for many types of our show leads and a unique locking system with beads for Simple Showleads and couples brace'sFinding the right solutions with regards to coat type - here we have found various solutions for coats, providing cord or braids to suit types of coats for breeds of all sizes, but with all other features regular show leads provide suited to each individual show style also. We feel that the coat is better protected when we use satin cord and not metal chains. Covering metal trimmings placed behind the ears for fluffy or long coats, with rubber so that the coat does not tangle or get caught in the trimmings. Providing slip collars that have rings in two sizes, so that they can be wrapped around the neck of the dog and attached to the lead so that the collar does not lose it's functionality, but also avoiding going over the dogs head - great for intricately groomed dogs that have topknots. Finding suitable solutions for large breeds that do not necessarily need slip leads or collars, that tighten around the neck of the dog - We can do Simple Showleads for large breeds too, these are adjustable so that the handler can lock the width of the lead so that it does not widen letting the dog slip free, but does not tighten causing discomfort, gagging, shaking or rebellion from the dog in the ring. Kindness is also needed for many large breeds. We also custom make solutions to our clients requests, like slip collars that can be used to lead the dog by the cheek, not from behind the ears. Couples brace sets to suit two individual dogs as separate show leads, but can also be combined to a couples brace. Three leads for the price of two......We at Handlers have from the start encouraged our clients to tell us truthfully how they are doing with the products that we provide. Most of the time coming up with solutions to problems they are looking to solve so that we can offer them a truly "the best show lead" that provides the whole package. The feedback we receive is very valuable to us and helps us understand, solve and provide the best leads in the business. Our product development has been very fast and truthfully, we have learned so much along the way. 18.03.2010 we were the proud recipients of an award from the Icelandic "Byggðastofnun" (Rural communities council) sponsored by the Export Council of Iceland, University for the Arts, ÍMARK, Nýsköpunarmiðstöð Íslands (The Icelandic new inventions center), Iceland design Center and "Handverk og Hönnun" (Crafts and Design).... This award will support our work marketing abroad.

Product Testing Handlers Product TestingWe at Handlers tested our products before we hit the international marketplace. We are determined to ensure that they meet our and our customers standards and really live up to our company slogan: Reliability Comfort and Elegance. As we endeavor to produce an excellent yet groundbreaking product, we felt it absolutely necessary to test our designs, the handle in particular, the cord lock and type of cord we have chosen to use along with our designs. We want more from our leads than merely meeting the needs of the occasion. We want to make sure they are strong and durable too. The results from our first formal product tests are as follows:Each participant received a lead to their individual requirements and specifications of type of lead, breed of dog, neck and head measurements. A questionnaire was sent to all participants that required them to tick their rating in appropriate boxes. Results for the first week were as follows: Item Excellent Good Average Below Not good averageHandle 46.4% 21.4% 17.9% 3.6% 10.7%Cord Lock 45.5% 41.0% 9.0% 4.5% 0.0%Satin Cord 33.3% 36.7% 16.7% 10.0% 3.3%Cord Length 34.5% 27.6% 13.8% 17.2% 6.9%Neck Ribbon 41.5% 27.6% 7.2% 10.3% 3.4%Would you like beads 34.6% 7.7% 19.2% 0.0% 38.5%and embellishments?The general satisfaction with them grew steadily within the group of participants, up to week 7 when the questionnaire results were the following: Item Excellent Good Average Below Not good averageHandle 100.0%Cord Lock 66.7% 33.3% Satin Cord 50.0% 50.0%Cord Length 50.0% 50.0%Neck Ribbon 50.0% 25.0% 25.0%In the final questionnaire, participants were asked if they thought that Handlers leads were better or worse than other types on the market. 75.7% of the participants thought the Handlers leads were better, 8.1% thought they were worse and 16.2% were not sure. 81% said they would use Handlers showleads at shows in the future, 5.4% said they would not be using them and 13.5% said they would maybe be using the Handlers leads. The results of this product testing was very positive for Handlers ehf. A lot was learnt during the whole process that will prove valuable to the company and all of our designs. We have developed and are marketing more types of leads based on the information gained during this process and most sizes and breeds of dogs and their owners should be able to find a lead to their liking within our range. That fact alone could also contribute to the percentage of satisfied and happy customers.

We have decided to carry on testing our leads on an ongoing basis. As we develop our range further, we are better equipped as we collect customer and user feedback, on how our products can be improved or if they are as we strive for them to be:
